The Chittagong Hill Tracts:
The Road to a Lasting Peace
Last December 2, 1997, the
Pabatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) - representing the
Hill tribes - and the Government of Bangladesh finally signed a
Peace Accord, ending 25 years of armed conflict in the Chittagong
Hill Tracts in Bangladesh. Despite their misgiving about the
Peace Accord, the indigenous Hill peoples are seeking to pick up
the pieces from the ravages of war and rebuild their lives. There
is hope that the farms, which have turned crimson with blood, can
turn golden once again as they heave with grains in the harvest
season. This special publications is, therefore, a story of
hope.
