India became a democratic Republic In 1950. During the Constituent Assembly debate Jaipal Singh of Jharkhand expressed his doubt about the sincerity of the leaders of the newly formed nation-state of India. Even then he promised to cooperate with them and urged the members to work together with the Adivasis of India to usher in a new dawn of democracy. In this effort he asked them to learn a few things form the Adivais for they were the ones who had been practicing democracy since time immemorial.
